The Yoshi are a species of dinosaur that is usually native to Yoshi's Island. They are known for their eggs, appetites and affilation with Mario. The Yoshi that travels with Mario, simply named Yoshi, is a member of this species.

Yoshis possess humanoid features, much like Koopas, and are often seen with a saddle and boots. Yoshis have bulbous noses with eyes peaking above them. In some instances, Yoshis have been known to possess hair. A special trait of the Yoshis is that they can come in an assortment of colors, which includes green, red, blue, yellow, cyan, black, white, brown, orange and pink.
