The Star Spirits are a group of seven stars that grant wishes to the people of the Mushroom Kingdom. They have only been seen in the intro giving power to Mario, Luigi, Sonic, Shadow, and Yoshi in the battle against Mecha Sonic, and are thus assumed to appear at some point in the series.
The seven spirits are, in no particular order:
- Twink (Though does not hold that much power) and does not appear with the other Star Spirits.
Star Spirits over Crystal Stars?Edit
When Alvin-Earthworm first showed that he'd be using the Star Spirits in Super Mario Bros Z, a fan posed the question of why he chose the Star Spirits rather than the Crystal Stars to be the dimensional equivalent to the Sonic World's Chaos Emeralds.
Alvin answered that the Crystal Stars held no actual power (despite the magic abilities they granted), being more "key" than "power source", and did not actually allow any power.
However, Alvin has been proven wrong by fans. In Chapter 3 of Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, the Gold Star was used to power a machine in the Glitz Pit that couldn't otherwise be operated, and in Chapter 7, the Crystal Star was used to power Magnus 2.0. More substantially, it was revealed in game that each star held a portion of the Shadow Queen's power, thus making them very powerful, albeit dark, objects. However, their dark nature may have something to do with why they were not chosen, given the good nature of the star spirits and the dark background of the crystal stars.
- Twink is a star kid, not one of the seven star spirits. However, he does possess some power when wished upon, as seen in Paper Mario.
