Mario Mario is a resident of the Mushroom Kingdom, and one of the main protagonists of Super Mario Bros. Z. After being enlisted by Sonic, he sets out to stop Turbo Mecha Sonic from collecting all of the Chaos Emeralds.
Biography[]
Appearance[]
Mario is a short, stocky young man with short brown hair and a black mustache, and blue eyes. His clothing consists of his signature red long-sleeved shirt, white gloves, blue overalls, brown boots, and his trademark red cap.
History[]
Mario and his younger brother Luigi were both born around the same time and were to be delivered via storks to their parents - however, Kamek interfered and managed to kidnap Luigi and knock Mario from his stork's grasp. Mario was found by the Yoshi clan of Yoshi's Island, and protected by the clan on his journey to save Luigi - ever since this journey he has had a knack for adventure and a brave heart. Upon rescuing his brother, the two were raised by the Yoshis for a time before being returned to their true parents.
As an adult he has had many professions, such as a physician or a construction worker, but is most often recognized as a plumber. He and Luigi have also become the official heroes of the Mushroom Kingdom due to their countless battles against Bowser and other antagonists. He has become a close friend of Princess Peach as well, and always rescues her when she is kidnapped. He is very popular in the Mushroom Kingdom, and has an assortment of allies from all over the world and beyond.

Powers and Abilities[]
Mario's most well known ability is his jump, a basic move he uses to defeat weaker enemies and move vast distances. He is capable of many other jumps and other acrobatic maneuvers, being a nimble combatant despite his short stature.
Mario is skilled in hand-to-hand combat, with his punches and kicks being able to send opponents flying. He also displays an impressive amount of strength, being able to knock around and even throw the hefty Bowser a great distance away. He also appeared adept in using a spear as an impromptu weapon after being ambushed by the Yoshi Tribe. Overall, Mario is a well rounded fighter and versatile fighter, being able to adapt to a variety of combat scenarios.
Mario wields the Ultra Hammer in battle, created by the Hammer Bros. from the BeanBean Kingdom. It is a powerful melee weapon whose weight and durability helps Mario brutalize opponents. Though it is tough and can break through durable surfaces, it could not withstand Bowser's metal exoskeleton in his Metal Bowser form. It also seemed largely ineffective against Turbo Mecha Sonic.
However, while still fairly strong on his own, Mario's true power lies in the vast array of transformations and power-ups at his disposal. By using power-up items native to the Mushroom Kingdom, Mario can access transformations that increase his power exponentially and make him a significant threat to any opponent. If he takes too much damage while powered up, however, he will revert back to his normal state.
Transformations[]
Fire Mario[]
After using a Fire Flower, Mario's clothes change from blue and red to red and white, respectively. He also gains fire based abilities in this form, most often using it to throw fireballs. As one of his most often-used and recognizable transformations over the years, Mario has come to master the pyrokinesis that comes with a Fire Flower more than anyone else. Contrary to popular belief, Mario doesn't need a Fire Flower to shoot fireballs, but the Fire Flower greatly enhances Mario's pyrokinetic abilities.
Cape Mario[]
After using a Cape Feather, Mario gains a yellow cape that grants the gift of flight. He is an incredibly fast flier in this form, sometimes even appearing to be teleporting due to the great speeds he can reach. This form allows Mario to utilize spinning abilities, spinning his body so fast that his cape smacks an opponent multiple times within a few seconds.
Invincible Mario[]
After obtaining a Super Star, Mario becomes invulnerable for a short amount of time. He is able to survive and shrug off literally any attack, no matter how powerful it is. He gains a slight glowing aura and sparkles in this form. Unlike this form's game counterpart, Mario additionally gains the ability of flight and seemingly enhanced strength.
Raccoon Mario[]
After using a Super Leaf, Mario gains a pair of raccoon ears and a tail that grants him the ability to fly though not, as fast as Cape Mario. He can utilize the tail this form grants for spinning abilities, similar to his Cape form. However unlike the cape, the tail is far more flexible, being capable of smashing opponents downward. Compared to Cape Mario, Racoon Mario strikes a balance between fighting ability and flight.
Hammer Mario[]
After using a Hammer Suit, Mario's clothes change from blue and red to black and yellow, respectively and gains a shell and helmet similar to that of a Hammer Bro. In this form he gains the ability to produce a seemingly endless amount of hammers. He is also able to use the shell he gains in this form for defensive purposes. Although Mario already has the Ultra Hammer to use, Hammer Mario offers a lot more freedom over the hammers he controls.
Techniques[]
As a fighter and an all around hero, Mario has many techniques at his disposal. This can include techniques used from Mario series games or techniques from other sources, such as Dragon Ball or Street Fighter.
- Jump - Mario's jump is one of his most basic techniques. It can be used either to strike enemies on the head or to get at a great distance. This technique first appeared in Super Mario Bros. but was first named in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.
- Back Throw - A technique that first appeared in Super Mario 64. Mario grabs his opponent and begins to swing them around before throwing them. This technique was used to defeat Bowser.
Fire Mario[]
- Fireball - Fireball is Fire Mario's base form of attack. It fires a ball of flame from his hand. Mario can also charge the fireballs to become even more powerful before throwing them.
Cape Mario[]
- Spin - A spinning technique which Mario uses to rapidly attack an opponent with his cape.
Raccoon Mario[]
- Spin - Similar to the spin technique Mario gains with a Cape Feather, Raccoon Mario spins to rapidly attack an opponent with his tail.
- Shoryu Reppa - A technique that originates from the Street Fighter series. Mario performs a series of small uppercuts in quick succession.
- Swing Bros - A Bros. move that originates from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. Performed with Luigi, the Mario and Luigi links hands and spin rapidly, repeatedly kicking any enemies nearby as they descend.
Hammer Mario[]
- Hammer Throw - A technique where Mario tosses a hammer at an opponent. He is also capable of throwing hammers in rapid succession to overwhelm opponents.
- Shell Tuck - Using the shell gained from the Hammer Bros. Suit, Mario tucks into it for defensive purposes.
