The Mysterious Shadowy Scientist's true identity is Dr. Ivo Robotnik, otherwise known as Dr. Eggman, Sonic the Hedgehog's arch-nemesis and the main antagonist of the Sonic the Hedgehog series.

Biography[]

Appearance[]

Within the shadowy appearance, he is an obese, egg-shaped, mad scientist with an IQ of 300 and a large mustache. His eyes are shown noticeably in his shadowy silhouette by his round glasses and his hands seem to be covered in fabric, like gloves.

Personality[]

Like most villains, Dr. Eggman is defined by his ego. His idea of a perfect empire involves his image plastered everywhere and even his former fortress, the Death Egg, has his face on it. He generally considers himself a genius without peer, save possibly his grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. When his plans break down, though, he loses his temper rather easily and can have some childish behavior.

Despite his evil ways, Eggman has been shown to fight against a greater evil when his own life or that of Mobius is threatened. His reasoning is mainly that he can't exactly conquer the world if there's no world left to conquer.

History[]

Dr. Eggman's greatest goal was to enslave the lives of Mobius into his robotic servants and dominate the world under the rule of his will, the Eggman Empire. He has launched various schemes involving acquiring the Chaos Emeralds or tapping into something else usable as a weapon to trounce his hated nemesis once and for all. Despite all his best efforts, Sonic and his friends stopped him over and over.

Turbo Mecha Sonic Saga[]

He played an important part in the original Super Mario Bros. Z, albeit a small one. He had created Metal Sonic and his large space station called the Death Egg. However, after the robot rebelled and merged with some Sonic robots, it presumably killed him and sent the space station to crash at Mobius causing the planet to have a dark atmosphere.

In Episode 7, Bowser talked to a shadowy figure about the weapons he commissioned. It is revealed here the Shadowy figure spent most of his time inventing Bowser's doomship, (possibly) several advanced starfighter-like ships, and a new robot doppelganger, Mecha Mario, on Bowser's behalf to invade Peach's Castle and crush the Koopa King's enemies. The shadowy figure's only appearance was in Episode 7 and Episode 8.

Powers and Abilities[]

Dr. Eggman's greatest skill is his intelligence and ability to create new technology. He can create armies, manipulate Chaos Energy, control time beings like the Time Eater and even took on Super Sonic with his Chaos Energy Cannon, powernulling Super Sonic.

He has been shown to be an ace pilot and highly skilled in controlling his creations. His Egg Mobile grants him flight, survivability in space and is highly versatile, able to comfortably attach itself to any of his mechs.

Eggman is tougher than he looks but is not a mechless combatant. He can move fast when fleeing and his speed reactions match that of Sonic's in combat, which is shown when controlling his mechs, but otherwise doesn't possess notable strength feats. He can, however, tank the explosions from his mechs when they get destroyed and these are mechs that can harm and take hits from Sonic and Pals.

Trivia[]

  • Eggman's identity was going to be revealed the moment when he met Sonic face to face once again.[1] However, in February 2020, Mark expressed hiding the scientist's appearance as one of his biggest regrets on his Xitter during the original run. (“Gee, I wonder who that shadowy guy really is?”), adding in an emoji (🙄), confirming the 2006 Super Mario Bros. Z's Mysterious, Shadowy Scientist is indeed Dr. Eggman.[2]
