Shadow and Dr. Eggman explaining the Chaos Emeralds' power, The New Threat

The Chaos Emeralds are seven mystical relics of unlimited power from Sonic's World.

Biography[]

Metallix-Collection

Metallix's collection of Chaos Emeralds.

Appearance[]

The Chaos Emeralds are seven brilliant-cut gems with different colors; green, red, blue, yellow, purple, cyan and white. All seven are bound by the Master Emerald, a similar artifact but of much greater size and power.

Background[]

They have existed long before recorded history, yet no one is aware of their point of origin or who was responsible for their creation. Some have speculated the Chaos Emeralds may have been forged by the gods themselves. Regardless of their source, they have been sought after through known history by numerous factions for their unstoppable power.

Behavior[]

The Chaos Emeralds appear to be sentient, as Metallix himself seems to imply the White Chaos Emerald can communicate. For some reason, it told Metallix to ignore Sonic, Shadow and the rest so Metallix may return to focus on his mission.

History[]

Screen Shot 2021-05-16 at 12.13.05 Donut Plains Fierce Battle Between Fierce Rivals Goomba Metallix

The Blue Chaos Emerald was first seen in the Donut Plains when a wandering Goomba came across it. Seeing nobody around, the Goomba took the Emerald for himself, planning to give it to Goombella in exchange for a date. However, at that moment, Metallix appeared and demanded that the Emerald be given to him. The Goomba stood there scared, and Metallix killed him with a blast of energy, taking the Emerald for himself.

During his fight with Yoshi in The New Threat, Metallix tapped into the Emerald's power, allowing him to turn the battle back in his favor shortly after Yoshi used the white one to be able to actually put up a fight against him.

The Red Chaos Emerald was first seen in Bowser's Castle, having already come into the possession of Doctor Eggman sometime before the events of the series. Some of his robot scouts found and secured the Emerald without Metallix's knowledge, allowing Eggman to forge a partnership with Bowser by tempting him with the near-limitless power of the Emerald and its involvement in creating a technologically-advanced army for the Koopa King to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom. When Bowser called the Koopa Bros. for their next mission, he ordered them to locate and obtain the rest of the Chaos Emeralds, using Eggman's Emerald as an example of what they look like.

The White Chaos Emerald was first seen in a forest within the Mushroom Kingdom when Luigi and Wario found it and each other once they grabbed it simultaneously. Believing that the Emerald was the key to vast riches, Wario took it for himself and escaped in his car with Waluigi, prompting Luigi to chase them down while riding a nearby Yoshi. Chasing the Wario Bros. on top of a cliff, Yoshi attempted to snatch the Emerald from Waluigi, and the two groups began to fight over it.

As they fought each other for the Emerald, Metallix fired missiles at the group, blasting the Wario Bros. away. Emerald in hand, Yoshi fell into a forest below while Luigi watched on, unable to save him. Since Yoshi continued to keep the Emerald safe, making him one of Metallix's targets, the two then had a ferocious battle against each other, with Yoshi swallowing the Emerald to protect it from Metallix. When on the brink of defeat, Yoshi unknowingly tapped into the Emerald's near-limitless power, enabling him to take on Metallix while being granted special abilities so that he could keep up. Unfortunately, Metallix proved himself the superior fighter and won the battle regardless, thanks to him using the Blue one to enforce the skill difference. Taking the Emerald at the end of the fight, Metallix successfully raised his Emerald count to two.

Powers and Traits[]

In The New Threat, as Shadow and Dr. Eggman explain, individually, each Chaos Emerald possesses a near-limitless supply of energy capable of warping the fabric of reality itself. When all seven are united, their combined power will allow the bearer to command ultimate power and become unstoppable.

Regarded as "miracle gems" by Dr. Eggman and speculated to have been "forged by the gods themselves," the Chaos Emeralds can grant tremendous power to those who can harness their energy, with the degree being relative to the number of Emeralds the bearer yields. Through this, they can acquire enhanced abilities as well as new ones. As seen in the same episode, during his fight with Metallix, Yoshi tapped into the power of the White Chaos Emerald resting inside his stomach. As a result, the Emerald vastly enhanced his physical abilities, and he gained the ability to fly and lay explosive eggs.

In the same fight, Metallix used the Blue Chaos Emerald he acquired in Fierce Battle Between Fierce Rivals to bolster his power and advantage.

Powers Granted by the Chaos Emeralds[]

The Chaos Emeralds can empower those who possess them, giving the bearer remarkable powers including but not limited to:

  • Enhanced Physical Abilities - Grants the user enhanced strength, speed, attack power, and durability.
  • Flight - With the aid of one of the Emeralds, Yoshi gained the ability to fly.
  • Explosions - Granted Yoshi's eggs the ability to create huge explosions.
  • Chaos Control - A technique to have control over Chaos Energy, allowing the user to use further abilities.
    • Teleportation - Using Chaos Control grants the user the ability to bend space & time, allowing them to teleport across the battlefield.
